Microsoft Will Redesign Windows 10 File Explorer This Year

Since Dona Sarkar became head of the Windows 10 Insider Program, Microsoft’s attention to one of the elements that have always been the protagonists of the majority of user and enthusiast feedback, File Explorer, has become constant and decidedly in the foreground. It could not have been otherwise, as the young engineer Sarkar, many years before he assumed the current office, actively participated in the development of the first version of the Windows file manager.

Windows 10 file explorer will finally be redesigned during this 2019, with previews that can be tested by Insider users who perform Build preview of the 20H1 development step and which will be included in the central compilations (May / June) of 19H2.

It will make its debut in File Explorer and, subsequently and gradually, on all areas of the Control Panel, the new stylistic language of Windows 10, Fluent Design, complete with transparencies and shadow effects (reinserted in Windows 10 19H1 ), together with elements redesigned and in line with the Modern part of the software.

File Explorer Menu 2020

We have already anticipated the integration of recent files and most used in the new Start menu without Live Tile (another return to a certain past required loudly). The new Windows 10 file manager will support new elements of apps and services integrated into Windows 10 connected to the Microsoft account associated with the host device, for quick direct access, also via the Sets feature, which will make its return in the Insider versions over the coming quarters.

Good news, therefore, coming for everyone (passionate and not) in Windows 10 with the two updates of the features of next autumn and the following spring, for a complete and homogeneous graphics experience and use in every area of the software.

Windows Virtual Desktop Preview Now Available

We’ve known for a while that Microsoft was preparing a new virtual desktop enabled Windows 10 edition. Microsoft recently announced that its Windows Virtual Desktop service is now available as a public preview.
Today, we move to the next phase and announce the public preview of Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop. Now, all customers can access this service—the only service that delivers simplified management, a multi-session Windows 10 experience, optimizations for Office 365 ProPlus, and support for Windows Server Remote Desktop Services (RDS) desktops and apps. With Windows Virtual Desktop, you can deploy and scale your Windows desktops and apps on Azure in minutes and enjoy built-in security.

What is Windows Virtual Desktop?

With Windows 7 nearing its end-of-support, Microsoft is touting the Windows Virtual Desktop service as an alternative measure when organizations can’t readily upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft will provide free Extended Security Updates for Windows 7 with the Windows Virtual Desktop service, allowing organizations to run Windows 7 till January 2023.

Moreover, Microsoft is timing the “general availability” of the Windows Virtual Desktop service for “the second half of calendar-year 2019.” General availability is an indication of product readiness, and so this new VDI service likely will be commercially available before Windows 7’s end-of-life date.

The Windows Virtual Desktop service, as demonstrated in this Microsoft Mechanics video, appears to allow fast access to applications and files. Things apparently get speeded up by technology that Microsoft acquired when it bought FSLogix last year. FSLogix is described as an app provisioning platform that enables “faster load times for user profiles” in Outlook, OneDrive and Office 365 ProPlus.

Windows Virtual Desktop will also be extended and enriched by leading partners in the following ways:

  • Citrix can extend Windows Virtual Desktop capabilities with their Citrix Cloud services.
  • Through our partnership with Samsung, Windows Virtual Desktop will provide highly mobile Firstline Workers access to a full Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus experience with Samsung DeX.
  • Software and service providers will extend Windows Virtual Desktop to offer targeted solutions in the Azure marketplace.
  • Microsoft Cloud Solution Providers (CSPs) will deliver end-to-end desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) offerings and value-added services to their customers.

For users accessing the Windows 10 and Windows 7 desktops and apps, there’s no additional cost if you’re an existing Microsoft 365F1/E3/E5, Windows 10 Enterprise E3/E5, or Windows VDA customer. For Windows Server desktops and apps, there’s no additional cost if you’re an existing Microsoft RDS Client Access License (CAL) customer.

Cloud Gaming: Google Stadia, Lets You Play Without Installing the Game

Google Stadia: this is the official name of the streaming gaming service presented today by Google on the stage of the GDC (Game Developer Conference). But perhaps defining it as a game streaming service is an understatement. Google has created it to be an ecosystem for everyone, for those who want to watch video games, for those who want to play video games and even for those who want to develop them. In short, a real revolution, at least on paper.

Project Stream was therefore only the tip of the iceberg, a tip that still allowed for the streaming of triple games such as the last Assassin’s Creed at 1080p and 60 fps. And the CEO of Ubisoft was present at the presentation of Stadia given the precious collaboration of the French publisher in the new Google project. Google’s goal is to make gaming accessible to everyone, to use Chrome, a platform capable not only of allowing navigation but also the use of web-apps, to allow access to as many players as possible. You can use a laptop, a desktop PC, a mobile device or a TV with Chromecast, and switch between them like nothing.

Google Stadia screen

One of the strengths of the service is the Instant Access. Imagine watching a gameplay video on YouTube and seeing the Play button appear. Pressing the button within 5 seconds you will be projected inside the video game. Extraordinary, isn’t it? YouTube in effect becomes a hub where games can be discovered and played. And Stadia is not a console, it is not a hardware platform, it is something accessible from just about any device.

Google Stadia Controller

There is however hardware peripheral: a controller dedicated to Stadia that, among its peculiarities, has a dedicated button to stream YouTube to what you are playing. There is also a button to access a voice assistant (there is a microphone on the controller) that provides extra information about the video game you are facing. Any examples? It gets stuck in a Shadow of the Tomb Raider tomb, through Google Assistant you ask for help and on the screen, you see a video solution that helps you step by step to overcome the obstacle.

Google Stadia Controller

Google Stadia Resolutions and Processor

This is made possible by Google’s data centers around the world. According to the managers on stage, it is literally years that the company is experimenting with the service. And hold on tight: at the launch Google Stadia will support streaming games up to 4K and 60 fps, and in the future support for 8K games up to 120 fps will come!

Google Stadia 4k 8k videos

And the graphics power of the machines on which the games to which we will be streaming will be installed? It is hardware, called by the Google itself “GPU Stadia” with greater graphics power than that of an Xbox One X or PS4 Pro: 10.7 TFLOPS, against the 6 of Xbox One X and 4.2 of PS4 Pro. The Stadia GPU has 56 computational and HBM2 memory units. The CPU is a 2.7 GHz x86 custom processor accompanied by 16 GB of RAM.

Google Stadia TFLOPS

During the presentation on stage, a manager of id Software also rose. DOOM Eternal will be among Stadia ‘s launch titles and will run at 60 fps in 4K. The game will be shown in action to those present at the conference. The game will run on a single GPU stage. The performance of the hardware signed Google seem phenomenal, so much to allow the simulation of the change in real time of the flows of fluids (imagine two fighters that challenge each other under a waterfall moving the waters) and much more without undergoing slowdowns. There is even talk of Battle Royale with thousands of players.

Developers will also have the ability to enable cross-play for their titles, allowing Google Stadia users to challenge players on every existing gaming platform. And cross-play leads us to multiplayer: online games will obviously be available. And what about the partners on board the project? Quite a lot, enough to convince virtually any video game developer, ditto for the graphics and physical engines: Unity , Havok, Unreal Engine, CryEngine, Enlighten.

Google Stadia Features

  • Play wherever you want, when you want: play on any device, including laptops, desktop computers and selected phones and tablets. A high-speed Internet connection is required
  • New game modes via YouTube and beyond: switch from a video to a game in seconds, with even more innovative experiences soon available for selected games.
  • Up to 4K HDR at 60 fps: play as you like, with amazing HDR graphics and smooth viewing. Viewing in 4K HDR at 60 f / s depends on the bandwidth. The gaming experience may vary depending on the quality of your Internet connection.
  • Play immediately: no updates or downloads are required. Start playing right away.
  • Constant improvement: Stadia’s cloud-based infrastructure evolves to meet the needs of YouTube players, developers and creators.

Google also today announced Stadia Games and Entertainment, a company that will take care of bringing new games and experiences to Stadia. And at the head of this division, there will be nothing less than Jade Raymond, a leading figure in the videogame industry we told you about not too long ago. First party games will arrive from various partners in collaboration with this new division of Google, and to confirm it is the same Raymond on the GDC stage. Google has already sent over 100 Stadia dev kits to as many software houses and at the moment there are over 1,000 “creatives” and engineers who are actively working on titles for the new platform.

Output and prices

But when will Stadia arrive? Exact date unknown but it will be later this year in the USA, Canada, UK and most of Europe. It is a paid service. In fact, every game could be managed as a single purchase. Unfortunately, at the moment there are few details on the pricing and controller.

People with Disabilities Can Now Easily Access a Document

The Microsoft Office suite already has a feature called Check Accessibility that makes it easier to read content for people of any level. This function can be used before sending the e-mail message or sharing the document or spreadsheet. Microsoft is making this process even easier by adding the ability to perform accessibility checks in the background. This allows Office to remind you at the right time when you should investigate further, instead of relying on the ability to pre-conceive the need.

It will sit quietly from the status bar without consuming valuable information on the screen and will give you an instant reminder with a one-click action to make your content more accessible to people with disabilities and more usable for everyone.

Missed a Call or Message? Skype Can Now Notify You via Email

Microsoft now have a new feature on Skype that will notify users about the missed calls and messages through email. This feature is presumably helpful for the individuals who don’t open Skype consistently yet need to remain updated.

Skype

How It Works

Microsoft has really turned on settings of course so on the off chance that you don’t need messages, at that point you should incapacitate them. To incapacitate settings you should open Skype and head to Settings > Notifications and look down to Email Notifications and impair them. The most recent refresh additionally knocks the application to v8.40.0.70 and is accessible for everybody.

Did you accidentally delete a OneDrive file? Here’s how to recover it.

OneDrive and other cloud backup services allow us to update our files on all devices. If your chosen PC uses Windows, it is very likely that you are using OneDrive as a storage app: it is natively supported, after all, and it is easier to go with the flow than to fight the current. That said, what happens when backups fail? Since people can delete files from their hard disks, there’s nothing that prevents you or a child in error from deleting an important file from OneDrive.
Fortunately, you can save an accidentally deleted file if you need to delete it with some warnings.

ALSO READ: If You Love Online Storage, You”ll Love Microsoft OneDrive

First of all, if you’re eliminating a lot of large files, OneDrive can simply delete them permanently rather than storing them in the trash. Secondly, there is a 30-day trial period, after which the files are automatically deleted if you want them to be, or not.

How to restore deleted files on OneDrive

OneDrive File Restore

On Cloud

  1. Open the OneDrive Web app and scan the right panel/menu based on the size of the current window.
  2. There, you will see the basket. Microsoft has transmitted the same Windows metaphors to its web-app to make it almost easy to navigate.
  3. Click on it and find the files you are looking for.
  4. Select Restore selection.

On Windows.

  1. While Windows shares a web-like workflow, the leash is longer here because the 30-day limit does not exist. Files deleted from the OneDrive folder on Windows are diverted to the local trash.
  2. To restore files deleted by OneDrive, simply scan the recycle bin for the file and click Restore.

NB: Files deleted on one platform cannot always be restored to another platform, so it is not possible to delete a file on Windows and then restore it from the cloud or vice versa.

Google Will Introduce a New Gaming Service on March 19

Apple will not be the only company that has scheduled the launch of its new services at the end of March. Another market player intending to do the same will be Google. According to confirmed information, as early as March 19, almost a week earlier Apple, the search giant expects to hold its own event called Game Developers Conference, within which it is likely to present its new platform for game streaming – Project Stream.

The date of the upcoming conference is confirmed by the invitation, which Google sent the participants. Most of them, as the name implies, will be game developers and people from related professions who may potentially be interested in the new project of the company.

Google Streaming Service

Fundamentally, the Project Stream, which Google is supposed to present at the March event, is not much different from traditional streaming services for gaming. He, like everyone, allows you to play heavy console games on computers that are significantly weaker in terms of hardware using an Internet connection. In fact, the user will see in front of him only a picture that the server sends him. However, due to the high-speed connection to the network, it is almost impossible to distinguish the stream from the real game.

The main difference of Project Stream from competitors’ solutions is to focus on browsers, or, more precisely, on branded Google Chrome. Thus, Google is likely to be able to make its service cross-platform, giving access to it to owners of computers running not only Windows, but also macOS, Chrome OS and, perhaps, even Android, which directly from the start will increase its potential audience in times, and perhaps even orders of magnitude.

Get Free Skype Minutes by Purchasing an Office 365 Subscription

When you purchase an Office 365 subscription in many countries, you get 60 minutes a month to call over 60 destinations worldwide with Skype. However, to take advantage of this offer, you must activate it manually from the Microsoft Account page. Microsoft has now finally realized that this extra step is not actually necessary. This new build also includes the following new improvements:

  • Do not forget any unsent messages! You’ll find conversations with unsent messages at the top of the recent chat list marked as drafts. You can quickly get back to them, finish and send.

Construction details updated:

  • Retains the version of the app 8.39.76.176 for tablets iPhone, iPad, Android 6+ and Android and 8.39.76.181 for Windows
  • Desktop app version 8.39.76.176 for Mac and Linux and 8.39.76.181 for Windows
  • Web version 8.39.76.176

These new features will be implemented gradually on Skype Insider.

Microsoft Build 2019 announced, will be held May 7 to 9 in Seattle

Microsoft today announced the Build 2019 developer conference. The conference will be held from 6 to 8 May at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA. As usual, Microsoft will talk about the latest development tools and technologies.

Imagine new ways to create software, gaining insights into the industry in the future of software development. Connect with your community to understand new development trends and innovative ways of coding.

The registration for 2019 will be published on February 27th and the agenda of the event will be published at the end of February. Microsoft also said it will link participants to a variety of hotels that offer discounted special rates.

It is interesting that the Build conference dates go well against the Google I / O conference. Since the target audience of both events is different, it should not be a big deal.
